LOGAN – Utah State will rename its on-campus football stadium the Jim Laub Family Stadium in January, the university announced, ending a decade-long naming-rights partnership with Maverik Inc.
The 25,513-seat venue, known as Romney Stadium when it opened in 1968 and as Maverik Stadium since 2015, will carry the Laub name when the Aggies open the 2027 season. The playing surface will remain Merlin Olsen Field.

The stadium naming rights are the latest addition to a growing Laub footprint on campus.
The family has funded the Stan Laub Indoor Training Facility — named for Jim’s late brother — the Jim & Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex, the Wayne Estes Center and the Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field, and helped finance renovations to the football stadium and the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Jim Laub, president and CEO of Cache Valley Electric, was inducted into the Utah State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013 and has received the National Football Foundation’s Outstanding Service to Amateur Football Award.
He has served as president of the Big Blue Scholarship Fund, chairman of the National Advisory Board for Aggie Athletics, and as a member of the USU Board of Trustees.
“Their impact extends far beyond athletics, and having their name on this stadium is a meaningful recognition of the many ways they have invested in people, strengthened this university and made our community a better place,” said Utah State President Brad Mortensen.
The Aggies open the final season at Maverik Stadium on Sept. 5 against Idaho State. By the time they return for their first home game in 2027, the name above the gate will belong to one of their own.
