Utah State adds sharpshooting guard in NCAA transfer portal

Apr 22, 2026, 11:11 AM

LOGAN, Utah – Former Wright State guard Solomon Callaghan will be a Utah State Aggie after signing with Ben Jacobson’s squad.

Utah State made the signing official on Wednesday, April 22.

“I’d like to thank Coach Sargent and the entire coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans of Wright State for an incredible three years. I’m forever grateful for the experiences and the connections I made,” Callaghan wrote in a social media post. “I’m very excited for my next chapter in Logan at Utah State. I am blessed by the opportunity that Coach Jacobson and his staff have provided me, and I am more than ready to get to work.”

Callaghan is the second transfer portal addition for the Aggies, following the signing of former Northern Iowa big man Will Hornseth earlier in the signing period.

Who is Solomon Callaghan?

A native of Wadsworth, Ohio, Callaghan averaged 21.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as a prep senior in 2022-23.

While at Wadsworth High School, he became a three all-state performer. Callaghan was a second-team Division I All-Ohio selection and The Gazette MVP as a senior.

He finished his high school career with 1,460 points, fourth all-time in Medina County (Ohio) history.

Following a redshirt season, Callaghan made 11 starts as a freshman in 2024-25.

He shot 37.2 percent from three while averaging 6.7 points in 32 games.

The 6’2″ guard upped that average to 10.2 ppg as a redshirt sophomore, while helping the Raiders to Horizon League regular and postseason championships. It marked the program’s first NCAA Tournament bid since 2022.

He started 31 of 33 games and shot 39.5 percent (70-of-177) from 3-point range and 92.6 percent (63-of-68) from the charity stripe.

Callaghan gives the Aggies an experienced sharpshooter who can spread the floor.

Callaghan comes up big in Wright State’s NCAA tournament loss to Virginia

No. 14 Wright State fell 82-73 to No. 3 Virginia in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, but it was no fault of Callaghan.

Callaghan finished with 18 points while making 4-of-6 three-point attempts. He finished the game 5-of-8 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
