Utah State Basketball Returns To Campus For Summer Workouts

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State men’s basketball team returned to the Spectrum this week for summer workouts.

The Aggies are preparing to defend their Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship but will have to do it with some new faces and having to navigate their off-season workouts during a pandemic.
Utah State returns seven players that suited up last season including a trio of incoming juniors Brock Miller, Neemias Queta and Justin Bean.

Dealing With Pandemic
When the players were locked down at home, they had to figure out different ways to workout when gyms and weight rooms were not accessible.
“I was at a local park shooting because I didn’t have access anywhere,” Miller said. “I built a squat rack with my wife, so I had some weights in my garage. Then after those two months, I got access to a church and ever since then I have been working out in the church. It’s been kind of a crazy deal but it’s good to finally be back in the facilities.”

Miller averaged 8.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 35 percent from the field and 30 percent from downtown last season.
Being Back In The Spectrum
The players came back to Logan to begin workouts in the Spectrum with head coach Craig Smith and his coaching staff. The players are excited to be back in the gym with their teammates.
“First time in about four months that we have been able to workout in the Spectrum,” Miller stated. “It was good to get back with the coaches, do workouts that we need to do, it’s also good to be back in a group as well instead of individually. It makes it more competitive and makes us better, overall it’s been good.”
A player that will be taking an increased role on the team is Alphonso Anderson. He was happy to be back in Logan.
“It’s great, drenched in sweat but it was great to be back out there,” Anderson said. “It was my first time being back in the Spectrum since the season so it was big time.”
