LOGAN, UT – Utah State Aggie graduate quarterback Logan Bonner has been named to the 2022 Maxwell Award watch list ahead of the 2022 season.

Utah State announced the honor on Monday, July 18.

The Maxwell Award is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to America’s College Player of the Year. Established in 1937, the Maxwell Award is named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell for his extensive contributions to the game of football as a player, sportswriter and official. 85 players have been named to the list.

Bonner transferred to Utah State from Arkansas State prior to the 2021 season.

The 6’1, 230 pound quarterback put together one of the best statistical seasons for an Aggie signal-caller in program history. He set five single-season school records including passing yards (3,682), touchdown passes (36), four touchdown passes in three consecutive games, four touchdown passes in six games and 2.57 touchdown passes per game.

His 36 passing touchdowns is the third most in Mountain West history.

Bonner saved his best performance for the Mountain West Championship Game. Bonner completed 29-42 passes for season high’s with 318 yards and four touchdowns. Leading the Aggies to a 46-13 victory over the No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs.

Bonner joins three other members of Mountain West teams to be named to the watch list. Fresno State senior quarterback Jake Haener; Air Force junior running back Brad Roberts; and Boise State junior running back George Holani.

After finishing 11-3 last season, the Aggies are scheduled to play nine nationally televised contests in 2022. A week two matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide will air on the SEC Network. The Aggies travel south to face BYU in Provo on Thursday, September 29 in a game that will be shown on ESPN.

The defending Mountain West conference champions open the 2022 season at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium against the American Athletic Conference’s Connecticut Huskies on Saturday, August 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MST) and the game will be televised on FS1.
