BOULDER, Colorado – Don McHenry and the Utah Utes offense struggled from the field against a lengthy Colorado crew in an 85-73 loss.

The Utes (8-7, 0-2 Big 12) took on the Colorado Buffaloes 12-3, 2-0 Big 12) at the CU Events Center on Wednesday, January 7.

McHenry led all scorers with 24 points in the loss. The Utah guard was pressured into going 2-of-13 from the field after scoring 18 first-half points.

Keanu Dawes and Terrance Brown each finished with 16.

First Half

Utah got punched in the face out of the gates with the Buffaloes hitting four of five shots to grab an 11-1 lead and force a timeout less than three minutes in.

Guard Don McHenry was the only Ute to make a field goal in the opening six minutes. He hit four of six shots while the rest of his team began the evening 0-for-9. McHenry’s effort kept Utah close, trailing 16-13 at the under-12 media timeout.

Later in the half, Jakhi Howard caught a pass in the corner before driving baseline for a two-handed jam.

The Utes took their first lead of the night when Keanu Dawes drilled a hesitation three to take a 29-27 lead with 5:41 left in the half.

Colorado responded with a 12-2 run, jumping back to an eight-point lead at the under-four timeout.

Utah trailed 42-38 at the break.

McHenry’s 18 points led all scorers on 7-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from deep. Terrence Brown was the only other player in double figures with 12 points.

Second Half

Another Buffalo run to open a half extended the deficit to 49-39, less than two minutes in.

Minutes later, a 6-0 Utah run, fueled by a four-point play from McHenry, brought the Utes within four with 11:11 to play.

Dawes brought Utah within two on a 15-foot jumper with under four minutes to play.

The Utes couldn’t overcome Colorado’s length in an 85-73 loss.
