SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The BYU football program sent the University of Utah program a care package to honor the life of Utes RB Ty Jordan.

BYU put the rivalry with Utah off to the side and sent a great package to the team to remember Ty Jordan.

Jordan died on Christmas night in Denton, Texas near his hometown to an apparent accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Kalani Sitake’s program sent a framed jersey with No. 22 and Jordan on the back along with the interlocking U at the bottom. Utah showed their appreciation to BYU by posting the items on Twitter.

“Thank you to the BYU football program for these items that honor the life of Ty Jordan. We will treasure them,” the tweet read.

The package also came with a tin can for the dog tags which had the Utah Utes logo with a message from BYU that read the following:

“Utah family, on behalf of BYU football, we want to express our deepest condolences for the loss of Ty Jordan,” the item read. “Regardless of where our loyalties lie, the state of Utah lost a phenomenal football player and person; one who exemplified being a great teammate, competitor, and son. His legacy will live on through us each day as we strive to be the best we can be. Fly high #22!”

The dog tag has a No. 22 Ty Jordan jersey with “Rest In Love” at the bottom. The dog tags were made by Vandy Creations, a company in Southern Utah. According to KSL Sports BYU Insider Mitch Harper, each player and coach in the Utah football program will receive a dog tag.

The rivalry game was not played this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Utah started in the middle of November and played five games. BYU had a 12-game season and went 11-1.
