SALT LAKE CITY — After several months of waiting, one of Utah basketball’s more intriguing international additions is officially a Runnin’ Ute.

On the heels of Noam Yaacov being ruled ineligible and Trey Campbell officially welcomed to the program, Utah announced the signing of Austrian forward/center Fynn Schott, finalizing an addition that had been expected since Schott committed to Alex Jensen’s program in February.

Schott, a 20-year-old big man with extensive international and professional experience, gives Utah another potentially significant frontcourt piece for Jensen’s second season.

The wait between Schott’s commitment and signing was longer than originally anticipated as he finished his professional season overseas and worked through matters at home. He recently made an official visit to Utah before completing the process of joining the program.

Now, Utah can officially move forward with one of the more unique players in its rebuilt roster.

What Fynn Schott brings to Utah

Schott arrives with a résumé that looks much different than that of a typical college newcomer.

The Austrian big has spent several years in European developmental and professional systems, including the 2025-26 season with Hestia Menorca in Spain’s Primera FEB, where he averaged 2.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in roughly 15 minutes per game.

His international production has been much more revealing. Schott has represented Austria from the youth levels through the senior national team. At the 2025 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B tournament, he averaged 12.2 points, 13.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 58.3% from the floor.

He continued that production against older competition during 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying earlier this year, averaging 17 points and 13 rebounds in two games against the Netherlands.

That combination of professional experience, rebounding and production against international competition helps explain why Utah remained patient throughout the process.

Schott fits what Jensen is building

Schott gives Utah a physical, experienced frontcourt player with more skill and feel than a traditional interior big.

He can screen, rebound and finish around the basket, but his passing may be the most intriguing part of his game. Schott averaged at least 2.7 assists across each of his appearances at the U16, U18 and U20 European championships, including 3.2 per game at last summer’s U20 tournament.

That versatility fits Jensen’s preference for movement, screening and decision-making. Schott can function in pick-and-roll actions, make plays out of the short roll and keep the offense moving without needing touches as a featured scorer.

His clearest path to playing time is straightforward: rebound, defend, screen, move the ball and finish efficiently around the rim.

Utah’s frontcourt takes shape

Schott joins a deeper Utah frontcourt that includes Babacar Faye, Malek Gomma, Zati Loubaki, Jaxon Johnson, Alec Anigbata and Lukas McCanna.

Listed at 6-foot-8, Schott measured bigger than expected on his official visit. His size will allow him to play center, while his mobility and passing ability could also give Jensen flexibility to use him alongside another big.

There will still be an adjustment to the athleticism and physicality of the Big 12, but Schott arrives with a strong foundation. He has already played professionally in Europe, competed extensively in FIBA basketball and earned minutes with Austria’s senior national team.

That experience should give Utah a more college-ready international prospect than his age might suggest.

The Bottom Line

Schott’s signing doesn’t come with the surprise that accompanies a new commitment. Utah has expected him to be part of this roster for months.

Tuesday’s announcement provided clarity. And for Jensen, Schott represents exactly the kind of international prospect Utah has increasingly targeted: young enough to develop, experienced enough to contribute and skilled enough to function within a more sophisticated offensive system.

His rebounding should translate immediately. His physicality gives Utah another option inside. But it’s Schott’s combination of passing, screening and basketball feel that could ultimately determine how large his role becomes.

After a long wait, Utah finally has the Austrian big man officially in the fold.
