Utah’s radio broadcast will feature Bill Riley on play-by-play, Stevenson Sylvester as the analyst and former Utes running back Zack Moss on the sideline.

Red Out night game at Rice-Eccles Stadium

Utah will play the second of three consecutive home games to open the season.

The Utes have sold out 96 straight games at Rice-Eccles Stadium and own a 26-6 home record over the past five-plus seasons. Their .812 winning percentage during that stretch ranks first among Big 12 programs and No. 14 nationally.

Saturday’s game will serve as Utah’s annual Red Out.

Eric Weddle to enter Utah’s Ring of Honor

The night will also honor one of the most accomplished players in Utah football history.

Former Utes safety Eric Weddle will become the fourth member of Utah’s Ring of Honor, joining Alex Smith, Ron McBride and Roy Jefferson. His name will be permanently displayed inside Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Weddle played at Utah from 2003-06 and became an All-American while helping the Utes win two conference championships, four bowl games and complete an undefeated 2004 season. He finished his Utah career with 277 tackles, 18 interceptions and a program-record nine forced fumbles.

His versatility became part of his legacy. Weddle played safety, cornerback and nickel, while also contributing as a runner, passer, returner and holder.

He later played 14 NFL seasons, earning six Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors before ending his career with a Super Bowl championship.

Weddle will be recognized during Saturday night’s game. Read more about Weddle’s selection as Utah’s 2026 Ring of Honor inductee.

Utes face their first significant test

Utah produced 633 yards and nine offensive touchdowns against Idaho, but the result did little to answer how well that production will translate against a Power Four opponent.

Devon Dampier completed 13 of 18 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. Wayshawn Parker accounted for three touchdowns, including two as a receiver, while Braden Pegan led the Utes with 81 receiving yards.

The performance offered an encouraging first look at Kevin McGiven’s offense, which created explosive plays and distributed opportunities throughout Utah’s lineup.

The Razorbacks should provide a much stronger test.

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jackson completed 24 of 35 passes for 267 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against North Alabama. The Razorbacks gained 415 total yards but averaged only 3.5 yards per rushing attempt.

Utah’s run defense will be one area to watch after Idaho generated two 75-yard touchdown drives and found intermittent success on the ground. Scalley acknowledged that Arkansas represents a substantial increase in size, speed and overall talent from Utah’s opening opponent.

Utah’s history against the SEC

Utah owns a 2-7 record in nine previous games against SEC opponents.

The Utes won their most recent matchup against the conference, defeating Florida 24-11 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2023. Utah’s other victory was its 31-17 win over Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, which completed a 13-0 season.

Saturday gives Utah an opportunity to add another SEC victory while showing whether its season-opening performance was merely an entertaining start or an early sign of something sustainable.
