Kyle Whittingham Remaining Quiet On Starting Quarterback For Washington State Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham has decided to remain quiet and will not announce the starting quarterback for the Washington State game.
Cam Rising entered the game after Whittingham and offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig benched starting quarterback Charlie Brewer in the third quarter of the San Diego State game.
Rising led the Utes to an impressive comeback that saw the game go to overtime before falling in heartbreak fashion. After the game, Whittingham said that the coaches would look at the film and will name a starter on Monday but wasn’t sure if it would be released publicly.
That was the first question Whittingham was asked at his press conference on Monday morning.
“No, we won’t do that,” said Whittingham. “We have a solid idea what we’re going to do but we won’t make any official announcement and you will just see him trot out there on Saturday.”

Utah’s Offensive Identity
After Cam Rising entered the game, Utah’s offense was in more of a rhythm. When Brewer was under center, Utah had just one touchdown and that was a punt return for a TD by Britain Covey.
Now that the Utes are 1-2 on the season for the first time since 2007, Whittingham was asked about the offensive identity.
“That’s the most important question we have in our program right now,” stated Whittingham. “We haven’t really been as physical running the football as we anticipated we were going to be. We’re not throwing the football for as much production as we need to, we’re not throwing it badly. But we’re not getting out of it what we need to do to win games.”
Utah will open Pac-12 play on Saturday, September 25 against Washington State at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. MDT on the Pac-12 Network.
