SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – University of Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham has multiple position battles taking place as the Utes continue their preparation to host the Arizona Wildcats on November 7th. The kicking and punting positions are two headaches that Whittingham is trying to decipher.

Kicking Battle

“Right now, Jadon is in a battle with Jordan Noyes for our placekicking spot and it’s neck and neck. And really Jordan might have the edge right now,” Whittingham said during his daily media briefing on Monday. “So that is an ongoing competition. Jordan and Jadon are both playing very well. It’s not trying to figure out who can get it done, we feel they both could get it done. It’s just a matter of who is going to be the better alternative.”

In 2019, Redding made 10 of 13 field-goal attempts with a long of 42 yards. Following his freshman campaign, Redding was awarded a scholarship for his efforts.

However, the arrival of English native Jordan Noyes has complicated the situation and is pressing Whittingham to take over the kicking reigns.

Separation At Punter

The punting position also has a battle occurring according to Whittingham.

“Ben Lennon seems to have separated himself at the punting spot but nothing is completely said and done there yet either,” Whittingham stated.

Lennon punted for the Utes in 2019 as a freshman averaging 40.9 yards per boot with a long of 62 from 44 attempts. Lennon’s competition is redshirt freshman walk-on Jared March who hails from Twin Falls, Idaho. Last year March acted as a member of the scout team and did not see any snaps during competitive games.

The competitions are ongoing as Whittingham has less than two weeks to solve who the starting kicker and punter will be prior to the first game against Arizona.
