Ludwig Has Confidence In Offense, Looking For Faster Starts

SALT LAKE CITY- Three games into the season and Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig has full confidence in the offense, he just wants them to start faster. While the veteran group has the ability to overcome early mistakes, Ludwig wants them to work toward being a force for four quarters instead of just three.

“There is some execution, some play calls, some things the defense is doing as well, they have some things to do with it,” Ludwig said. “I am pleased with the tenacity of the group and the way they are finishing things out.”
Don’t be mistaken, Ludwig is seeing progress from the offense every week, but he’s also a technician who sees limitless potential within his group and he won’t stop pushing them toward greatness.
“I think we are getting better each week,” Ludwig said. “Obviously this week we are working on starting a little faster. We’ve sputtered a little bit in the first quarter the last couple of games, but that will be a huge emphasis moving forward.”
A Big Area Of Offensive Improvement
Outside of the slow starts, the biggest gripe about the Utah offense early on has been the lack of wide receiver plays after stating getting the receivers more involved would be a point of emphasis in 2022. That changed last Saturday when Utah took on San Diego State and three of their five touchdowns were because of the receivers. Ludwig credits the group for fighting through some early adversity to make an impact against the Aztecs.
“They made the plays when the opportunities presented themselves,” Ludwig said. “You talk about some early struggles- we weren’t releasing or winning at the line of scrimmage, but we figured that out. We won some one-on-ones at the perimeter, made some contested catches and some nice catches.”
