BATON ROUGE, La. – The Utah women’s gymnastics team advanced to the regional finals after winning in the semifinals in the Baton Rouge Regional.

While they didn’t score over 197 for the first time in 12 matches, the Red Rocks’ score of 196.800 was enough to put them in first place among a group that included Minnesota, Arkansas and BYU. Minnesota, who finished second in the semis, also advanced to the finals.

“First and foremost, we are excited to move on to tomorrow’s final,” said co-head coach Tom Farden. “I thought we had things dialed in after a really good warmup, but we started out timid and trying too hard on vault. That start, combined with postseason scoring, broke our rhythm a little. I gathered the team before bars and we got back on track with what turned out to be our high scoring event today. Using today as our baseline, our performance and scores will improve tomorrow if we work with more confidence and trust. The gymnasts know they are capable of more, but morale is good and they are really excited to move on.

MyKayla Skinner took the all-around crown while also taking the top spot on the podium in the bars and floor events.

The Red Rocks will compete in the regional finals Saturday at 6 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.
