SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football landed a pair of important in-state commitments Monday, as Timpview offensive lineman Ian Aloisio and linebacker Fui Vakapuna both committed to the Utes.

That’s two more in-state adds on the board for Morgan Scalley’s staff, and two local wins from one of the state’s premier high school programs. The commitments add more momentum to Utah’s 2027 recruiting class and continue an important theme for the Utes under Scalley: keeping priority in-state prospects home.

Aloisio and Vakapuna are both three-star prospects, both of whom had multiple Big 12 programs involved with them. Vakapuna committed to Utah over Colorado and Cal, while Aloisio committed to Utah over Arizona and Arizona State.

For Utah, landing both on the same day is a strong statement in a recruiting cycle where the Utes have been working to rebuild local traction and strengthen the foundation of the class.

Utah adds key offensive line piece in Ian Aloisio

Aloisio is one of the more important in-state offensive line targets in the 2027 class. At 6-foot-4 and around 280 pounds, Aloisio already has the frame and movement ability that make him an easy projection to the next level. He plays tackle at the high school level, but many evaluators view him as a potential interior offensive lineman long term.

The Utes have built much of their identity over the years around offensive line development, physicality and positional versatility.

Aloisio checks a lot of those boxes. He has the size to grow into a college body, the feet to handle movement and pass protection responsibilities, and the competitiveness to fit the type of offensive line room Utah wants to build.

That matters under offensive line coach Jordan Gross, whose presence gives Utah a clear selling point with prospects like Aloisio.

Vakapuna Gives Utah A Physical Defensive Fit

On the other side of the ball, Vakapuna gives Utah a linebacker prospect with size, toughness and positional flexibility.

Listed around 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Vakapuna has the profile of a modern Utah defensive front-seven player. He can play in space, work downhill and bring some pass-rush value when needed. That versatility is valuable in Utah’s defensive structure, especially as Scalley continues to shape the roster in his own image.

As a junior, he recorded 57 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack and one interception. That statistical profile reflects a player who can find the ball, affect plays behind the line of scrimmage and still function in coverage.

Utah has traditionally valued linebackers and defensive players who bring toughness, instincts and positional intelligence. Vakapuna is not just a space-filler in the class. He gives the Utes a player who could grow into multiple roles depending on how his body and game develop.

The Bottom Line

Aloisio gives Utah an important offensive line commitment with size, upside and local value. Vakapuna gives the defense a physical linebacker with production and versatility. Together, they give the Utes two in-state commitments from one of Utah’s top high school programs.

There is a long ways to go between now and the early signing period. However, there two were a major priority in Utah’s summer recruiting efforts. Utah will continue to evaluate and recruit throughout the fall to continue their recruiting efforts.

The Utes landed two Timpview standouts, added help on both sides of the ball and strengthened the foundation of Morgan Scalley’s 2027 class. There is still plenty of work ahead, but this was another indication of the importance Utah has placed on the in-state kids.
