SALT LAKE CITY—Kyle Whittingham’s Utah football program is in need of help at the receiver position, and they may find it soon. Former five-star receiver Micah Hudson is set to visit the Utes this weekend for the spring game, the news first reported by Steve Wiltfong of On3.

Hudson began his college career as a true freshman at Texas Tech, playing under head coach Joey McGuire. But with limited snaps on the field, he entered the transfer portal in December 2024.

Just two weeks later, on December 15, he committed to Texas A&M. That move didn’t stick for long—by March, head coach Mike Elko confirmed Hudson was no longer part of the program.

Looking ahead, Hudson still has three years of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt in his back pocket if needed.

Micah Hudson set to visit Utah Football

Hudson will visit Salt Lake City this week. The Utes need help at the receiver position, and Hudson could address their needs.

He came out of Lake Belton High School in Texas as a five-star recruit in the 2024 class, earning a spot among the nation’s elite.

He was the No. 16 overall prospect in the country, according to 247 Sports’ industry composite ranking, and held a rating of .9934.

His high school stats backed up the hype: 202 receptions for 3,868 yards and 37 touchdowns, plus 1,243 rushing yards and 11 more scores. During his senior season alone, he hauled in 70 catches for 1,353 yards and 18 touchdowns. Unsurprisingly, he drew interest from across the country, receiving more than 30 scholarship offers.

Micah Hudson’s scouting report

A highly productive receiver at the high school level, he’s also made an impact as a running back and returner with his knack for big plays.

Explosive, high-usage weapon who thrives both outside and in the slot. Built lean and athletic, with surprising wiry strength.

He’s a vertical threat with an excellent first step, making him dangerous after the catch. A natural in the air, he can twist through traffic to haul in contested throws.

He’s tough with the ball in his hands and has a knack for making highlight-reel grabs, thanks to strong hands, body control, and sharp adjustment skills. Elusive and tough to bring down once he’s moving.
