Utah Women’s Basketball Has Regular Season Finale Canceled Due To COVID-19

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah women’s basketball team had their regular season finale against Colorado canceled due to COVID-19 concerns with the Utes.

That means that Utah women’s basketball has their postseason hopes in doubt with the Pac-12 Tournament scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 3. Utah athletics released a statement about the cancelation at 10:45 a.m. MT, about one hour and 15 minutes before tipoff.

“The University of Utah Women’s Basketball game against the University of Colorado, originally scheduled for today (Sunday) at 12 p.m. MT, has been canceled due to COVID issues within the Utah program,” the statement read. “Utah’s next scheduled event is the 2021 Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament March 3-7.”

Utah later tweeted out another statement regarding their status in the Pac-12 Tournament, which will take place in Las Vegas.

“A decision regarding the Pac-12 Tournament has not been determined yet. We are in the preliminary contact tracing process and updates will be made available at a later time.”

With a 6-12 overall record and a 4-15 mark in Pac-12 play, Utah is the No. 10 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament and will play Washington State in the first round on Wednesday if they are able to participate. If they can’t, the league will modify the bracket, which is set to be released on Tuesday.
