New Jets Receiver Says Sam Darnold Is New York’s QB For 2021

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Newly signed New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis said that Sam Darnold is the team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

Davis, who signed with New York this offseason, spoke about his decision to join the Jets and which quarterback he thought would be throwing him the rock this season during a Zoom call on Tuesday, March 23.
The receiver told reporters that he signed with New York “based on the understanding” that Darnold would be the Jets’ starter, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
“Yes, that’s my understanding,” Davis said when asked if he expects Darnold to be the quarterback throwing to him in 2021. “Correct.”

“Obviously, I’m coming with my understanding that Sam is the guy,” Davis said of the Jets’ quarterback situation. “That doesn’t scare me away at all. I’ve seen Sam do great things, and I have all the belief in him. Whatever direction they decide to go, it’s on me to make sure that I’m ready.”
In recent months, there has been speculation surrounding New York’s starting quarterback for 2021. NFL experts have discussed the possibility of the Jets trading Darnold and drafting a potential franchise quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft.
New York currently owns the No. 2 overall pick. Many experts have projected former BYU gunslinger Zach Wilson as the New York’s QB of the future.

“He’s obviously a great leader,” Davis said of Darnold. “I’ve heard a few things just talking to guys on the team. I’m looking forward to playing with him. He’s a competitor. Obviously, we can both learn from each other. He’s young, and we’re both growing. We can grow together.”
