SALT LAKE CITY – After sustaining a dangerous check to his knee against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, Utah Mammoth forward Logan Cooley appears to have avoided a serious injury and has been listed as a game-time decision ahead of the team’s matchup with the San Jose Sharks.

The Utah Mammoth can take a collective sigh of relief as Logan Cooley has reportedly avoided what could’ve been a serious, potentially season-ending injury.

Towards the midway point of the third period in St. Louis, the young forward was clipped in transition by Alexey Toropchenko near the blue line which forced him to leave the game early.

What made the injury potentially worrisome was not only the knee-on-knee contact, but Cooley’s initial reaction to the play as he immediately dropped to the ice, stayed down for several minutes and was unable to make his way to the bench under his own power.
However, according to National Insider Frank Seravalli, Cooley had only suffered a painful quad contusion and was able to walk after the game as the team departed for San Jose.

“You don’t want any of your players to have a significant knee injury so it’s good to see he’s on his leg already.” Head coach Andre Tourigny said following Utah’s morning skate on Monday.
“That was great to see him walk the next day and to be on the ice this morning. That was absolutely, really encouraging.”
As confirmed by Tourigny during his morning skate media availability, Cooley has been listed as a game-time decision ahead of their matchup with the Sharks.
However, all signs point to the young star suiting up in San Jose as he skated lines during practice and even addressed the media shortly after to share how he was feeling.

“I feel good. Obviously, some stuff happened and it tightened up a little bit but overall, I feel good,” Cooley explained.
“Morning skate went well. I’ll get some work on it now, see how it feels, but I should be good.”
Notably, Cooley skated lines with Dylan Guenther and Nick Schmaltz on Monday as the team continues to search for consistent offensive production from their top six.
Through 26 games this season, Cooley has registered 14 goals and nine assists.
The Utah Mammoth will continue their six-game road trip against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night at 8 p.m. MT.
The game will be available on Mammoth+.
