SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake Stallions had high hopes for quarterback BJ Daniels, but he went down with an injured triceps before their first game.

Scott Mitchell advised fans to keep those hopes high after he interviewed Daniels on Helmets Off Podcast, calling him “the star the AAF needs.”

Daniels played two seasons in the NFL as a quarterback and later followed the money and switched positions to wide receiver, meaning he chose to be on the active roster as a wide receiver over being on the practice squad at quarterback.

He won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks.

Daniels’ Path To The AAF

Daniels was an exceptional quarterback in college at the University of South Florida with an overall quarterback rating of 128.2. He was drafted in the seventh round of the  2013 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

In 2017, Daniels time in the NFL came to an end.

His time with the Stallions began in 2018 when the team drafted him in the second round of the 2019 Alliance of American Football Quarterback Draft.

Mitchell has praised the AAF in other episodes of Helmets Off. He said the AAF is good football, not gimmicky and football fans in Utah should give it a chance.

The one thing that the league must improve on, according to Mitchell  is that there are no stars and the league will need stars to be viable.

The Stallions Need BJ Daniels

Mitchell thinks Daniels is that star.

“It’s about quarterbacks…right now it’s the quarterbacks who are driving the league and BJ Daniels is the kind of talent who could electrify the Alliance of American Football,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell guaranteed his listeners that if Daniels was able to the play he would be one of many guys who could make the AAF “really go.”

Here’s why:

Experience

Daniels has the experience to be a smart quarterback. He spent time backing up Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson. He got to see football at its highest level and take it all in.

“It is the greatest internship in the world,” said Mitchell. “It’s like a person getting Warren Buffett as a mentor and then going out and starting their own business.”

Understands The Pressure

Daniels has made big plays on the largest football stage in the world as a wide receiver and as a quarterback.

He knows how to handle the pressure and now he can take a step back and really implement everything he learned from observing some of the greatest athletes in the world, according to Mitchell.

Mitchell encouraged his listeners to give the Salt Lake Stallions a chance and wait for BJ Daniels to heal before passing final judgment.

“I promise you, he will be electric,” said Mitchell.
