6A Utah High School Football First Round State Tournament Results

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The first round of the 6A UHSAA football state tournament is in the books. Sixteen teams competed in the first round, only eight teams clinched a berth into the second round.

KSL Sports takes a look at all of the first round action.

The Results For 6A

Region 4 No. 4-seed Pleasant Grove Vikings 27
Region 3 No. 1-seed East Leopards 21

Pleasant Grove pulled off the biggest upset of the weekend, taking down East. They started out the first quarter, outscoring East, 14-6. They hit two field goals in the fourth quarter after being tied heading into the final period. Vikings quarterback Jake Jensen threw three touchdown passes in the win.

Region 4 No. 3-seed American Fork Cavemen 52
Region 3 No. 2-seed Riverton Silverwolves 34

KSL’s Game Night Live Game of the Week saw American Fork outscore Riverton 38-14 in the second and third quarters, which was the difference in the game. Cavemen quarterback Boone Abbott threw five touchdown passes, four to wide receiver Chase Roberts – who added a kick return for a touchdown.

Region 1 No. 1-seed Weber Warriors 35
Region 2 No. 4-seed Granger Lancers 14

After leading 21-14 to start the fourth quarter, Weber put the game away with two touchdowns in the final period. Warriors quarterback Kohl Hogan threw two touchdown passes as well as two scores on the ground.

Region 2 No. 1-seed Kearns Cougars 40
Region 1 No. 4-seed Northridge Knights 37

In a tightly contested game, Kearns pulled out the win on a game-winning field goal from Jason Rodriguez as time expired. Cougars quarterback Dakota Lynde threw two touchdown passes and added another rushing touchdown.

Region 4 No. 2-seed Bingham Miners 20
Region 3 No. 3-seed Herriman Mustangs 10

Bingham scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win after they held a 13-10 lead. All three of the Miners’ touchdowns were on the ground – two of them from running back Andrew Wimmer.

Region 1 No. 3-seed Davis Darts 27
Region 2 No. 2-seed Hunter Wolverines 14

After trading touchdowns in the first half, tied at 14, the Darts defense held Hunter scoreless in the second half. Davis scored 13 points in the final half of the game. Darts quarterback Garrett Larson connected with wide receiver Trey Baggett twice to lead Davis into the second round.

Region 4 No. 1-seed Lone Peak Knights 57
Region 3 No. 4-seed West Jordan 28

Lone Peak held a big lead in the first half, 44-7. Quarterback Braden Siri threw three touchdown passes to give the Knights a dominating victory.

Region 1 No. 2-seed Fremont Silver Wolves 35
Region 2 No. 3-seed Cyprus Pirates 14

Fremont jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first three quarters of play before Cyprus put points on the scoreboard. Silver Wolves quarterback Mitch Stratford threw five touchdowns passes to lead Fremont to a win over the Pirates.
