KSL Sports Rewind: Davis Darts Captures 6A Boys Basketball State Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – The Davis Darts turned it up when it mattered most to prevail over the Herriman Mustangs in the 6A High School State Championship game last week.
Davis trailed for the vast majority of the first three quarters. In the fourth, the Darts outscored the Mustangs 32-20 to be crowned champs.
No one can say the Davis Darts didn’t earn the 6A Boys Championship this season as they completed one of the toughest runs through a state tournament that we can remember.

Davis Darts Crowned As Champions For Ninth Time
The Darts had one of the toughest paths to the top but they were able to make the journey. At some points, they advanced by the skins of their teeth.
In their first playoff game, it took two overtimes for Davis to sneak past the No. 15 American Fork Cavemen by two points. The quarterfinals weren’t much easier as they narrowly defeated Westlake by six. Despite an early scare, Davis got its first break in the semifinals, beating Layton by 20.
After a long and tumultuous ride, they were faced with the 24-3 Herriman Mustangs in the championship game.

The first three quarters were neck-and-neck with Herriman having the slight upper hand. Going into the fourth, the Mustangs led by three.
The Darts locked in at the perfect time, outscoring Herriman by 12 in the final quarter of the season to come out on top.
Senior guard Coleman Atwater led the way for Davis with 24 points. Bode Sparrow and JT Turley followed up with 16 and 12 points respectively.
