High school boys lacrosse: Skyridge’s 6A title stops Corner Canyon’s 5-year championship streak

May 23, 2026, 9:58 PM

HERRIMAN — After five seasons with Corner Canyon finishing atop the highest classification in Utah high school boys lacrosse, a new challenger will take a turn.

Dylan Forsgren scored four goals, and Tamanuitoi Johnson’s marker with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter helped Skyridge snap the Chargers’ five-year title streak, 12-11 in the 6A boys lacrosse championship Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium.

Corner Canyon got a match-high seven points from Ashton Brown’s three goals and four assists.

But Johnson totaled 4 points with two goals and two assists, Dominic Weaver added a goal and three assists, and Kaiden Hobbs scored twice as the Falcons overcame a 4-0 early deficit and a 6-4 halftime disadvantage with a five-goal fourth quarter en route to the first state title since the Utah High School Activities Association sanctioned lacrosse in 2020.

Corner Canyon had a chance to tie in the final minutes of the contest, but the goal was waived off for a crease violation.

“That was a game that looked like it was going to get away really early,” Skyridge coach Bart Butterfield told Utah Lax Report. “Guys stayed calm and composed … and got back in it.

“They made us earn everything. It was honestly one of the funnest games I’ve been a part of.”

The sport had been Corner Canyon’s to lose since then, with four straight 6A state championships and a Division I title in the first year of a sanctioned state tournament in 2021 (Utah did not hold spring championships in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

But if Skyridge’s win Saturday was an upset, it was at least one that some saw coming.

The Falcons entered Saturday’s match with an 18-2 record and winners of 12 of their last 13 matches. After a 15-10 loss to Chargers — which likely clinched the No. 1 seed in the 6A playoffs along with a 17-2 overall record that included a 4-0 mark in Region 3 play — Skyridge won its next five matches by an average margin of 9.6 goals.

That included a 4-point victory over Farmington in Wednesday’s semifinals.
