SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Richard Ledezma was 18 minutes into his second first-team start of the season for Dutch giants PSV when an awkward confrontation left the 20-year old with a torn ACL.

The injury occurred during PSV’s Europa League clash with Cypriot club AS Omonia in which they went on to win 4-0.

However, the win came at a cost with the injury to Ledezma.

Ledezma’s year has been filled with promise following his debut with the United States National Team as well as the PSV first team.

On November 1st, 2020, Ledezma came off the bench to make his first-team debut with PSV after a year-long stint with their B team in 2019. He has since been rewarded for his play by gaining two starts under manager Roger Schmidt.

Unfortunately, the recent injury blow will result in a long stint on the sideline. An ACL tear is often considered by health experts as the worst knee injury possible.

Furthermore, Ledezma’s injury will prohibit him from competing in the upcoming 2022 World Cup Qualifiers which are expected to take place in March of 2021. Despite the disappointment of missing the national team, Ledezma should be available for the 2022 World Cup assuming the U.S. can qualify.
