Fesi Sitake Explains How He Plans On ‘Celebrating’ If BYU Beats Utah In 2020

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Current BYU wide-receivers coach, Fesi Sitake, is thoroughly enjoying his time in Provo, Utah, however, he does admit to missing aspects of living up in Ogden where he formerly was the acting offensive coordinator at Weber State University.

As an offensive coordinator, Sitake had full control over every aspect of the offense. His main role as OC was to make sure the entire offense was in sync with each other. If all 11 players are on the same page, it is generally, very hard to stop.

As OC of Weber State University in 2017, Sitake created a rather impressive resume that included helping the Wildcats to a Big Sky Conference Title, a school-record 11 wins, a top-10 national ranking and the No. 18 FCS scoring offense at 33.7 points per game.

Since joining the BYU Cougars in 2018, Sitake’s coaching role has changed, somewhat.

Instead of having to oversee the entire offense, he now can focus solely on the wide-receiving group.

“I was forced to look at the game through a different lens. Where it was difficult was re-learning to just focus on my receiver play and not coach them like I coach the quarterbacks. I try to simplify things and be more efficient in my coaching,” Sitake said. “That is where it was hard. It wasn’t so much that I lost power or my title, it is just re-learning where I started which was coaching wide receivers.”

If the BYU Cougars were to beat the Utah Utes in the opening game of the 2020 season, Sitake already has plans for how he would celebrate.

“Go home, have a nice dinner with my family, put my kids to bed because they will likely still be up after watching the game, go to bed, wake up and start preparing for the next opponent.”

The so-called celebrations are more in line with a daily nighttime routine for any household that has children, which comes as no surprise given the man that Fesi Sitake is.

A mild-mannered, humble, happy gentlemen who thoroughly enjoys his line of work. Being able to develop and teach young men how to become better both on the football field and off is what Sitake’s calling in life was meant to be.
