SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The newest member of the Utah men’s basketball program Jordan Kellier is ready to contribute right away.

Kellier decided to transfer to Utah after spending one year in the JUCO ranks at Williston State College in North Dakota.

The 6’6 win from Portmore, Jamaica joined the Crimson Corner podcast to talk about his decision to join the Runnin’ Utes program and what he brings to the table. You can listen to the full interview, below.

Recruiting Process

According to Verbal Commits, Kellier received offers from Jacksonville State, Cedarville, McNeese State, Eastern Illinois and Prairie View A&M.

“I was being scouted by Coach K (Krystkowiak) and his staff during my one year at Williston State College,” Kellier told KSL Sports. “The bond that we shared and with the staff and reaching out to me on a daily basis. They are genuine coaches. I felt like they meant what they said over these calls so I was all in.”

Kellier started in 19 of the 21 games played last season while averaging 17.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He shot 44.6 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from beyond the arc and 79.8 percent from the free throw line.

How Kellier Will Fit In With Runnin’ Utes

Kellier is a player who can score, rebound and defend very well. The defensive part of his game fits the identity that Larry Krystkowiak has instilled into the program.

“I can score, I can rebound at a high level, I can guard the best player on the other team,” Kellier mentioned. “If I had to hang my hat on one thing, I would say my defense and stopping the best player on the opposite team. I will do that any day of the week on a high level even if I am missing shots, you are not going to score on me.”

As far as where he fits in with the team, Kellier believes that it is on the opposite wing of Timmy Allen.

“I see myself on the opposite wing,” Kellier stated. “I am on one wing and Timmy Allen is on the other wing. I feel like that would be a tough matchup for anybody on any night. We are great players that have great teammates and great coaches that will put us certain situations to be able to succeed.”
