ROSE PARK, Utah — Thanksgiving is a time to reflect with gratitude on all that we have in life. For PGA Tour Golfer and Utah Native, Tony Finau, 2018 has been a very special year.

Finau had two top ten finishes in Majors, finished with three second place finishes, was ranked sixth in the FedEx Cup and played in the Ryder Cup while earning $5,620,138.

Now recognized as one of the best golfers in the PGA, Finau still remembers his roots as a young boy from Rose Park that would practice hitting golf balls in his garage because he couldn’t afford golf lessons or to pay for rounds of golf.

On Tuesday, he returned to Rose Park and donated 1,000 turkeys to families that may have gone without Thanksgiving meals.

“We reached out to some local church leaders, some principals, and asked how we can help in this area,” said Finau. “The response was very much in favor in having this event.”

After first starting the event – Tony’s Turkeys – in 2017, his goal was to help the event grow and help even more families from Rose Park.

“I grew up in this area,” Finau added. “You never want to hear that so many families need the help, but as a foundation, we want to inspire some of these younger generation kids and give back to those who are less fortunate.”

Despite the troubles that many of these families face with poverty, drugs, and crime, he wants to do what he can to give back.

“I love Rose Park, I love being from here and I want to do my best to give back to a community that gave me so much,” said Finau. “It was an incredible place to grow up – very family oriented and a great place to grow up – I never want to lose sight of that.”
