SALT LAKE CITY – The Mr. Mac Utah County High School Player of the Week is awarded each week to the top prep football players in Utah County. It honors athletes for their performances on the gridiron and exceptional play. Our winner this week was Salem Hills running back and defensie back Benjamin Staheli.
Utah County Player of the Week – Benjamin Staheli, Salem Hills High School
The Salem Hills Skyhawks opened Region 8 play on the road last Friday at Timpanogos High School. Skyridge was looking to keep the momentum from a 2-1 start rolling forward and they struck first in the second quarter and carried a 7-0 lead into the locker room with both defenses proving to be stingy. Staheli shined from his safety spot with 11 total tackles and an interception.
Both teams found traction offensively in the second half as they battled to a 17-all stalemate at the end of regulation thanks to a field goal from Timpanogos with 34 seconds to go. In the overtime period, the Timberwolves took the ball first and connected on a 20-yard field goal to go up 20-17. Staheli then proved to be the hero as he rumbled in from 11 yards out for the game winning touchdown to lift Salem Hills to a 23-20 victory.
