Mitchell Scores 17 In First Quarter Against Denver

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In the first quarter of the Utah Jazz’s regular season home finale, Donovan Mitchell put on a show for the home crowd.
The second year guard scored 17 points in the opening period on 6-of-8 shooting with two made 3-pointers. He nearly outscored the Denver Nuggets by himself as the visiting team put up 21 points in the first quarter.
The Jazz led the Nuggets after the first quarter, 27-21.

Mitchell’s impressive first quarter was highlight by a coast-to-coast layup with an acrobatic finish after euro-stepping past former Jazzman Paul Millsap.
Coming into the contest against Denver, Mitchell was leading the Jazz in scoring with 23.5 points per game.
Prior to the game, Mitchell made a little fan’s night by gifting her his sneakers after warmups. The little fan, Evie Tulane, had a viral video of her throwing a tantrum for having to go to bed instead of staying up to watch Mitchell play.
Despite the strong play by Utah in the first quarter, the argument could be made that the Jazz would be best served going into the playoffs by losing their final two games of the regular season and settling for the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
