Jazz Unable To Slow Down Red Hot Damian Lillard, Lose Fourth Straight Game

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Utah Jazz were unable to slow down Portland Trailblazers star Damian Lillard resulting in their fourth consecutive loss.

The Jazz fell to the Blazers 124-107 at the Moda Center on Saturday, February 1.

Lillard blasted the Jazz for 51 points on 17-29 shooting. The former Weber State guard made nine of his 15 attempts from behind the arc. Lillard shot a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. He added 2 rebounds, 12 assists, and a steal. Lillard committed only one turnover against the Jazz. He recorded a +17 plus-minus rating in 36 minutes on the court.

The Blazers guard led Portland’s 51.1 percent shooting including 51.7 percent from downtown.

Lillard has averaged 48.8 points per game over Portland’s last six contests.

Portland had four players scored in double figures against Utah.

Blazers center Hassan Whiteside scored 17 points and pulled down 21 rebounds against Jazz all-star Rudy Gobert.

Carmelo Anthony scored 15 points while CJ McCollum added 14 points.

The Blazers improved to 23-27 with the win. Portland sits 1.5 games outside of the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.

Utah will play the Blazers again on Friday, February 7.

Mitchell and Mike

The Jazz were led by Donovan Mitchell who scored 25 points. Mitchell shot 11-21 on field goals and 3-6 on triples. He added 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal in 32 minutes.

Utah point guard Mike Conley scored 22 points in the loss. It was the first game Conley had scored 20 points or more since December 1, 2019. It was also his first game in Utah’s starting lineup since December 17, 2019.

Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic shot 5-9 from three-point range on his way to 22 points.

Gobert struggled against the Blazers and finished with 6 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 blocks.

Up Next

Utah’s four-game losing streak is its worst stretch since dropping four straight games at the conclusion of the 2018-19 regular season and beginning of the postseason.

With the loss, the Jazz moved to 31-17 on the season. They own a 14-13 on the road.

The Jazz return to action against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
