In Honor Of #GirlDad, BYU In Works To Create Father-Daughter Basketball Camp

PROVO, Utah – BYU’s summer camps have always been popular for young Cougar fans dating back to the 1950s. One of the more popular camps offered since it was introduced in 1998, is the BYU basketball Fathers and Sons camp during Memorial Day weekend.
On the heels of the popular #GirlDad, BYU is now in the process of creating a summer camp for female athletes and their fathers according to Men’s Basketball head coach Mark Pope.

Pope announced the plans to have a Father-Daughter basketball camp on his weekly coaches show (KSL NewsRadio, Tuesday at 9 p.m.) this week.
“We’re in the final stages right now of putting together the first-ever BYU dad and daughter sports camp this summer,” said Pope. “I’m not actually supposed to announce that because it could get deep-sixed. But we’re hoping to pull it off and it’s going to be so fantastic. We’re so excited.”
Pope is a proud #GirlDad of four daughters Ella, Avery, Layla, and Shay. Coach Pope’s oldest daughter, Ella Pope, a college basketball player at Ohio University recently began an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ecuador.

Pope’s second-oldest, Avery, was a Utah State Champion in girls tennis this past season.
BYU offers 22 different sport offerings in their summer camps and young people ranging from ages six to 18 years old participate in the camps.
Mark Pope’s Men’s Basketball team is currently ranked No. 23 in the country and will host Santa Clara this Thursday and then No. 2 Gonzaga on Saturday in the Marriott Center.
