University, High School Stadiums Turning Lights On For Community Support During Pandemic

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Universities and High Schools across the state of Utah are participating in the “Light It Blue”, “Make It Blue” or “Be The Light” campaigns to show community support during the coronavirus pandemic.

Granite School District announced that Hunter High School will turn their football stadium lights on for 40 minutes starting at 8:20 p.m.

“Wolverines even though we are not together we want you to know you are on our minds and in our hearts. We are concerned for you. We miss you,” read a post by Granite School district on Instagram.

Hunter High invited the community to drive by the stadium but reminded everyone to stay in their vehicles in order to practice safe social distancing.

Taylorsville High School will also be participating, according to Granite School District. Their stadium lights will be on from 8:20 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

With school being canceled until at least May 1 due to the pandemic, schools are finding ways to stay connected with students. Tonight it is with stadium lights.

Weber State University – Stadium Lights: On

According to a spokesperson from Weber State University, the school will turn on both the football stadium and soccer field lights to show their community support.

The lights will remain on for 30 minutes.

University of Utah – “Make It Blue”

The University of Utah, along with other Pac-12 schools, participated in a “Make It Blue” social media campaign to show support for healthcare and frontline workers.

“Today we join the Make It Blue USA campaign to support and shine a light on healthcare, frontline and essential workers who are working tirelessly to fight COVID-19,” read a tweet from Utah Athletics.

BYU Football & Zach Wilson Thank Doctors

BYU Football’s quarterback Zach Wilson filmed a video of himself on National Doctor expressing gratitude for healthcare workers during this pandemic.

“Just wanted to say thanks to all of the doctors and nurses out there sacrificing their lives to stop the spread of the coronavirus,” said Wilson.

Vivint Smart Home Arena – “Light It Blue”

Last night, Thursday, April 9, Vivint Smart Home Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, lit up blue and posted a video message to show their support of healthcare and frontline workers.

Smith’s Ballpark – Stadium Lights: On

On what would have been their opening day, the home of the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark turned on their stadium lights to show their community support.

The Minor League Baseball season was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
