BYU QB Zach Wilson Named Walter Camp National Offensive Player Of The Week

PROVO, Utah – BYU quarterback Zach Wilson continues to pile up accolades during the 2020 season. On Sunday, Wilson was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week for his 325-yard performance in a win over Louisiana Tech.

This is the 17th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
Walter Camp was one of the innovative football minds during the early days of the sport in the 19th century.
Through three games this season, Wilson has passed for 949 yards, six touchdowns, and he’s completed 85 percent of his 71 attempts. Wilson has accounted for an additional five touchdowns through the ground attack. The former Corner Canyon High standout currently ranks eighth nationally in passing yards.
Zach Wilson is the fourth #BYU player to receive the National Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week recognition since 2004.

In BYU’s 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech, Wilson completed 92 percent of his passes, which was good the second-best completion rate ever by a BYU quarterback in a single game. The best performance was Wilson’s perfect game against Western Michigan his freshman season in 2018.
Wilson was joined by Clemson linebacker Baylon Spector who earned the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Zach Wilson joins elite BYU company
Zach Wilson was the first BYU player to earn the Walter Camp National Player of the Week recognition since Max Hall in 2009. John Beck was named the Walter Camp National Player of the Week after the Cougars defeated Utah in 2006. Hall claimed the recognition twice during his three-year career with the Cougars.
