BOISE, Idaho – Zach Wilson in 2020 has led BYU to heights that the Cougar football program hasn’t experienced in decades. After defeating nationally-ranked Boise State 51-17, BYU is 8-0 for the first time since 2001, a lot of the credit for BYU’s success is going to the Cougars star quarterback.

For Wilson, he celebrates success by acknowledging his teammates and coaches, especially BYU Passing Game Coordinator Aaron Roderick. On Saturday, Wilson thanked Roderick for his help in his evolution as a quarterback.

Wilson shared his appreciation for “A-Rod” on his personal Twitter account by tweeting, “You’ll never see @CoachRoderick on the cover of the newspaper or blowing up on social media. His silent impact on this team, his dedication, scheme & passion are never talked about. Thank you for believing in me & helping me evolve into the QB I’ve always wanted to be.”

High praise for BYU’s third-year QB coach. The quarterback position has taken off under Roderick since he took over the Passing Game Coordinator role in 2018. Zach Wilson, Baylor Romney, Jaren Hall, and Tanner Mangum have all started and won games for BYU since A-Rod became the QB coach.

Wilson and Roderick have a strong relationship that dates back to A-Rod’s days on Utah’s coaching staff. A former BYU wide receiver, Roderick, has BYU back in the quarterback business with Wilson leading the way and positioning himself for the Heisman Trophy.

Behind Wilson, Roderick’s QB room doesn’t have a talent shortage with Romney and Hall plus a pair of highly-recruited prospects in Jacob Conover and Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters.

A-Rod has stuck by Wilson through the shoulder and thumb injuries, knowing that he always had this potential. Now it’s being realized and BYU is producing its best season they’ve had in nearly two decades.
