Celtics Send Former Jazzman Gordon Hayward To Hornets Via Sign-And-Trade

BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston Celtics have agreed to a sign-and-trade that will send former Jazzman Gordon Hayward to the Charlotte Hornets.
The Celtics will send Hayward and two future second round picks in exchange for a conditional future second round draft pick. Also in the agreement, Boston will receive a trade exception.
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the trade exception is worth $28.5 million, which is the largest in league history. Hayward will sign a 4-year, $120 million contract with the Hornets.

Hayward spent three seasons with Boston after seven years with the Utah Jazz. He averaged 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while with the Celtics. In his first season with his new team, Hayward suffered a season ending leg injury in the first game of the 2017-18 season.
The Indiana native posted 10 point, 4 rebound and 2.6 assist per game averages in his two postseason appearances with the Celtics.

When Hayward was with the Jazz, in 2014 he agreed to a contract with the Hornets as a restricted free agent. The Jazz matched the offer, preventing Hayward from joining the Hornets.
In seven seasons in Utah, Hayward averaged 15.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He was named an All-Star in his final season in Salt Lake City.
