SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah football running back Devin Brumfield announced he has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

He tweeted the announcement Monday morning, thanking his Ute family.

“Ute family. I want to thank you for the love and support that you’ve shown me over the last three years. My experience here has been life changing and I’ve grown up as a player, leader, and as a man which I will forever be grateful for,” Brumfield tweeted. “Thank you to my brothers that I’ve built lifelong relationships with. Thanks Coach Whittingham for believing in me and allowing me to play for such a phenomenal program. Thank you Coach McDonald for helping me bring my game to a new level, you’re a great coach and I appreciate our time spent. After talking with family and friends; I will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal and continue my academic and athletic career elsewhere. I am forever grateful for my time here at The University of Utah.”

Brumfield was in his third season with the Utes. The Louisiana native was the backup to Zack Moss for the last two seasons and was expected to have an increased work load going into 2020. The emergence of true freshman Ty Jordan has changed the rotation of the Utah backfield. In 2018, Brumfield played in five games, rushing for 42 yards on 14 carries.

Last season, he played in 12 games, racking up 263 yards on 59 attempts for 2 touchdowns. So far this season, Brumfield has 21 carries for 85 rushing yards and one TD through four games.

On Tuesday morning, Kyle Whittingham addressed the news of Brumfield and Wilmore entering the transfer portal.

“They both decided that it was in their best interest to move on,” Whittingham stated. “They were great members of our program while they were here. Both were all in. Great teammates, great students. We wish them all the best.”
