Clarkson, Bogdanovic Help Jazz Throttle Spurs For Third Straight Win

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jordan Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanovic helped the Utah Jazz blowout the San Antonio Spurs for a third consecutive victory.

The Jazz hosted the Spurs at Vivint Arena on Wednesday, May 5.

It was the second consecutive meeting between the two teams. Utah won the first of the back-to-back contests on May 3.

The latest edition of the matchup went worse for the Spurs.

Utah won the contest, 126-94.

How It Happened

After the Jazz got off to a quick start, thanks for Bogdanovic and Clarkson, the game was essentially over after the first quarter.

Utah led by 12 points at the end of the opening 12 minutes of action. Bogdanovic and Clarkson combined for 26 of the Jazz’s 38 points in the quarter.

The Jazz continued to roll in the second quarter and took a 24-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

San Antonio began the second half on a 4-0 run, which forced Jazz head coach Quin Snyder to call a timeout less than two minutes into the third quarter.

Following the timeout, the Jazz went on a 10-0 run and stretched their lead to 76-46. Utah won the quarter by a 13-point margin and went into the final 12 minutes with a 100-63 lead.

This is crazy what the Jazz are doing. The Spurs have been a .500 team all season and the Jazz are up by 30 AFTER San Antonio had a chance to scout them without Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley.

Snyder played deep into his bench in the fourth quarter and the Jazz cruised to a 32-point win.

The Jazz finished the game shooting 55.2 percent overall and 43.9 percent on three-pointers.

Utah had five players score in double figures.

Clarkson led the Jazz with a game-high 30 points on 12-16 field goals, including 2-4 from downtown. He added six rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes.

Bogdanovic poured in 24 points to lead Utah’s starting lineup. He shot 10-13 from the field and 3-4 from distance. The forward also had two rebounds and a pair of steals in 26 minutes.

Rudy Gobert, Georges Niang, and Joe Ingles each scored 10 points or more.

The Spurs were limited to only 40.2 percent shooting, including 30.4 percent from three.

With the win, the Jazz improved to a record of 48-18 this season, including 29-4 at home.

The Phoenix Suns suffered a loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. As a result, Utah regained the No. 1 overall seed in the Western Conference standings.

The Jazz currently have a 1.0 game lead over the Suns. Phoenix owns the tiebreaker over Utah.

Utah’s next contest is a home game against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
