Former BYU Walk-On Quarterback Lands Power Five Scholarship Offer

PROVO, Utah – Did you know BYU football only has four quarterbacks heading into the 2021 season? Back in spring ball, the Cougars had six quarterbacks. One of the QBs that left BYU is former Pleasant Grove High standout, Jake Jensen.

After the school year, Jensen left BYU to join a JUCO program on a scholarship in Contra Costa College in California. After a few months away from BYU, Jensen is now receiving recruiting interest from Power 5 programs.

Jensen announced on his social media that he received a scholarship offer from the California Golden Bears in the Pac-12 Conference.

Jensen got a little bit of recruiting interest from Pleasant Grove but no scholarship offers from FBS programs. So he ended up committing to BYU as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2019. After graduating from Pleasant Grove, Jensen delayed his enrollment at BYU by serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina.

He enrolled at BYU this past January and was the sixth quarterback in a crowded room that featured three in Jacob Conover, Jaren Hall, and Baylor Romney vying for the starting job. All three of those QBs are either freshmen or sophomores in their eligibility clock.

BYU football down to four quarterbacks

Jensen isn’t the only QB that has left BYU since spring ball concluded. The other is Rhett Reilly. Reilly entered the Transfer Portal this off-season. However, BYU Offensive Coordinator Aaron Roderick said last month that the door is open for him to come back to the program. Reilly has been in BYU’s QB room since 2019. He is the cousin to former BYU defensive back Drew Reilly and Utah standout Trevor Reilly.
