BYU Can’t Keep Pace With Nevada In 86-70 Loss

RENO, Nev. – It was a close game for three-fourths of the contest, but ultimately the BYU Cougars fell short against Nevada in a 86-70 season-opening loss.
The Cougars played the No. 7 ranked team in the country tough with the score at 59-57 with 10:31 remaining. Unfortunately BYU was outscored 27-13 the rest of the way and Nevada came away with the win.

Yoeli Childs picked up a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jahshire Hardnett led the Cougars in scoring with 17 points and four 3-pointers made.

Jordan Caroline led the game in scoring with 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Caleb Martin also hit the 20-point mark with 21 points. Martin knocked down 10-of-12 attempts from the foul line.
The Cougars were unable to keep pace with the Wolf Pack due to poor shooting, especially from beyond the arc. They fired up 3-point attempts at a miserable 19.4 percent clip. The Cougars also allowed Nevada to get to the line twice as much as they did and the Wolf Pack took advantage, knocking down 28-of-39 attempts from the charity stripe. BYU went to the line 19 times and made 12 tries.
Next up for the Cougars is a crosstown match against UVU Friday at 8. The game will be broadcast on BYUtv.
