BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Utah Jazz started their three-game road trip on the right foot with a 101-91 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

Slow Start For Both Teams

Right from the get-go, it was clear that both teams were going to struggle offensively. It wasn’t until nearly two and a half minute had passed before the Jazz scored first basket of the game

Rudy Gobert scored all of Utah’s first eight points in a scoring first period. Utah took a 17-16 advantage despite shooting just 35 percent from the field while going 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The scoring picked up just a bit in the second quarter. The Jazz took a 43-42 lead thanks to a 3-pointer by Donovan Mitchell with about a second remaining in the half.

The Nets took over in the third, thanks to 14-straight points for Brooklyn all scored by Spencer Dinwiddie. Going into the final period, Brooklyn held a 78-70 advantage.

Mitchell Takes Over

The fourth quarter however, belonged to Mitchell and the Jazz. After missing two games with soreness in his ribs, Mitchell came alive in the fourth quarter. He put up 14 points in the final period along to lead Utah to the victory.

“We defended and got stops, that’s all it comes down to,” said Mitchell after the game on how his team played in the final stretch of the game. “We did that against L.A., we defended against Sacramento, had a little bit of let up last game, so we knew we had to come out and stay strong for 48 minutes.”

By The Numbers

Mitchell finished with a game-high 29 points. Gobert turned in a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Royce O’Neale had a strong game coming off the bench and contributing 13 points, including three made 3-pointers.

Dinwiddie led the Nets with 18 points.

Next Up

The Jazz will continue their three-game road trip with a visit to Charlotte to play the Hornets on Friday at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet.
