Utah Gymnastics Moves To No. 3, BYU Up Next

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After their 197.175-194.450 win over Penn State in their season opener, Utah moved up two spots in the WCGA rankings to No. 3.
The Utes were one of three teams to score a 197 or better in opening week, behind Oklahoma (198.050) and UCLA (197.250). Utah is ranked No. 2 in the nation in vault, bars and floor while ranking No. 10 on beam.

MyKayla Skinner is tied for first in the country on bars and floor, while coming in at No. 2 in the all-around. MaKenna Merrell-Giles is No. 6 nationally in the all-around, tied for No. 7 on vault and beam, No. 8 on floor.

Utah will be away from home for the next three meets starting at BYU on Friday, Oregon State on January 19 and Arizona State on January 26. The Utes 197.175 score against Penn State is the best opening day score since 2005 and third best in school history.
The Utes are 97-2 all-time against BYU, including a 27-2 record in Provo. Utah has won 39 straight meets against BYU. The Cougars last win was in 1998 with a 196.050-195.975 win. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Center and can be seen on BYUtv.
