Big First Half By Jazz Highlighted By Mitchell’s Dunk

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Utah Jazz capped off a great sequence that combined offense and defense with a huge slam dunk by Donovan Mitchell.

The play began win a block on a layup by Kris Dunn that caromed off the backboard by center Rudy Gobert. Jae Crowder picked up the rebound and whipped a behind the back pass to Joe Ingles, who then found a streaking Donovan Mitchell. The play was finished off with a one-handed scissor-kicking dunk by Mitchell.

The play, started by Gobert’s third block of the half, helped Utah take a commanding 36-point lead.

Utah led Chicago 70-36 at halftime.

It was nearly the best defensive half of the season by the Jazz. They allowed just 35 first-half points by the Orlando Magic in the meeting on Dec. 15. The Jazz ended up losing that game 96-89.

At the halftime break of Saturday’s game, four Jazzmen had already surpassed double-digit scoring. The most significant contribution came from backup guard Raul Neto, who had 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting from the field with two 3-pointers made in just eight minutes of action.
