PROVO, Utah – Every year an annual charity event takes place at the Shops at the Riverwoods in Provo called, “Chalk The Block.”

This year’s festivities took place this past weekend and a former BYU football player was one of 350 artists that sketched an entry in the event.  Almond’s drawing paid homage to his old team and alma mater.

The former player was BYU punter and kicker Rhett Almond.  Almond played for the Cougars from 2015 to 2018.  Last season, Almond was BYU’s starting punter.

Almond’s sketch was inspired by a graphic originally put together by BYU’s Creative Services Director Dave Broberg this past May that read, “Stronger Together” and featured a handful of BYU football players.

You can see Almond’s chalk design that he and his wife Hannah put together below. (Photo courtesy: Nate Edwards/BYU Photo)

Here’s the original from BYU and the creative services team.

I’d say Rhett and his wife did a really good job with their drawing.

The great part about the Chalk The Block event is that it benefits a great cause.  The goal of Chalk The Block is to help build a brighter future for children with autism. The proceeds from this past weekend’s event went to the Spectrum Academy.  An academy that helps students with autism reach their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally, leading to productive and successful futures.

Along with sketching images using chalk for charity, Almond is currently applying to different physical therapy schools to become a physical therapist.  In his free time, he’s hitting the golf course working on his short game.  He even joked that because of how much he’s working on his golf game you can keep an eye out for him at the next U.S. Open.

Almond’s thoughts on current BYU kickers

The current BYU football team that’s in the middle of fall camp right now has a competition taking place at punter.  The top two players vying for the job right now are Almond’s old teammates in Jake Oldroyd and Danny Jones.  Almond said he hasn’t had time to get out to practice yet so he wouldn’t be able to give an informed opinion at the moment.  But based on his previous experiences on the team, he thinks BYU fans can look forward to seeing both punters getting playing time with their different punting styles in various game situations.
