Haws Out 10 Days For Surgery Recovery On Knee

PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball senior point guard TJ Haws was sidelined for the first day of practice as he recovers from a surgery he had recently.

“So TJ had surgery a couple of weeks ago, he’s a couple of weeks away. He just had to have a little scope on his knee. He’s great,” said BYU head coach Mark Pope. “He was having some pain and so, we kind of were debating whether just manage it through the whole season or just try and clean it up, so we cleaned it up. It seemed like a great decision two weeks ago and now since he missed the first week of practice it’s just so awful not having him out there.”

During practice, Haws was off to the side getting up shots. During a break in practice, Haws was at center court with his teammates huddled around him and gave his teammates instructions on how they should execute a drill in the next phase of practice.

With Haws out for the next 10 days, it opens the door for other players on Pope’s roster to get a shot at point guard.

“It is giving us some other guys a chance to run the point. It’s given Connor Harding a chance to work the point, which is really important for us and Blaze Nield has actually had a great two practices so far today and TJ will be back in 10 days or so,” said Pope.

BYU basketball opens up their 2019-20 season on Tuesday, November 5th at home against Cal State Fullerton in the Marriott Center.
