The Park Cafe In Liberty Wells Is Salt Lake’s Ultimate Classic-Style Diner

Dec 18, 2019, 11:40 AM

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Since 1952 Utahns have been visiting the hallowed grounds of 604 East 1300 South to indulge in the satisfying hospitality of The Park Cafe.

The cafe provides a heartwarming, family atmosphere that ensures you leave with a smile on your dial.

Sean, the owner, is beloved by the community, not because he has created a restaurant that provides spectacular food, although he has, but because he has provided a place for people to go and have fun. It just so happens that the food is also very tasty. A win-win, if you ask me.

The vibe is amazing. The Park Cafe is where friends and family go to laugh and eat.

The menu has a classic American Diner feel to it. The food tastes delicious and the price is very reasonable.

Can't be bothered

What We Ordered

I took my good friend and former University of Utah quarterback, Travis Wilson with me. Wilson, whose final season up on the hill was in 2015, has forever been in love with the food and atmosphere the Park Cafe offers.

“The people that work here, all the people that come in and eat here, just the hospitality and the great food,” Wilson said while explaining why he loves The Park Cafe so much.

Wilson got the Michigan Hash, which is a plate filled with park potatoes mixed with sausage, onions, mushrooms, peppers, topped with cheddar cheese and two eggs. However, Wilson then wrapped all that goodness in a flour tortilla and made it into a burrito topped with homemade gravy.

Every item on their menu is customizable. They care a lot about making their customers happy.

I got the staple – their French Toast Foolishness. Which is the most popular item on the menu, according to the owner.

It consists of two slices of french toast, two eggs, two pieces of either bacon or sausage and their park potatoes.

The french toast is thick. A crispy outside and a soft and gooey inside creates a very satisfying texture that will have you coming back for more. Add a light spread of butter and smother it with maple syrup and you will find yourself in a sweet and sugary heaven.

The price point at The Park Cafe is another aspect that has customers coming back for more. The Michigan Hash will only set you back $7.25 and the French Toast Foolishness is only $8.25.

Other Crowd Favorites

If you are looking for a smaller meal, you have plenty of options.

The Double Play consists of your choice of ham, bacon or sausage and two eggs with your choice of bread and park potatoes.

Or the Field Goal, two eggs scrambled with diced ham and your choice of bread with park potatoes.

You may be picking up a theme, every meal comes with park potatoes. A delicious addition to any warm and savory breakfast.

I will often get the Shooters Sandwich also. Two eggs, cheddar cheese and ham, bacon or sausage on grilled bread served with park potatoes. Sensational.

If you do not arrive in time for breakfast and are feeling more like lunch. Their burgers and sandwiches are as good as you will find.

The Deli Tuna Melt is remarkable. The Super Burger, half-pound sirloin patty, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and condiments served on the side. Or the Bacon Cheese Burger, half-pound sirloin patty, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, cheddar cheese, two slices of bacon with condiments also served on the side.

Celebrities Galore

When you rock up to The Park Cafe, you are almost guaranteed to see a famous sighting. Specifically local athletes.

Captain of Real Salt Lake, Kyle Beckerman, visits The Park Cafe every morning Real Salt Lake have a home game. He gets his calories and nutrients to help him run his way through a 90-minute soccer match at The Park Cafe.

Rudy Gobert and other Utah Jazz teammates are also in attendance frequently. Gobert’s Jazz jersey is hung up on the South wall inside the Cafe.

Many Utah football and basketball student-athletes are also often seen hanging out with Sean.

Zack Moss, Tyler Huntley, and others enjoy the hospitality of The Park Cafe.
