Yoeli Childs Becomes Second BYU Player To Pull Down 1,000 Rebounds In Career

PROVO, Utah – BYU senior forward Yoeli Childs is in elite company. During BYU’s win on Thursday night at Loyola Marymount, Childs became only the second player in BYU basketball history to record 1,000 rebounds in a career. The other is former BYU guard Kyle Collinsworth.
Childs needed five rebounds to hit the 1,000 thresholds and he ended up getting six during the win. His fifth board of the game and 1,000th of his career came near the four-minute mark of the second half.

On his career, Childs now has 1,001 rebounds, just 46 away from Collinsworth who ended up with 1,047 career boards from his playing days at BYU in 2010-11, 2013-16.
Childs is closing in on becoming the first BYU player in program history to have 2,000 points and 1,000+ rebounds in a career. After the 23-point over the Lions that saw Childs score nine points, well below his average of 20 points per night heading into Thursday, he needs 97 more points to be a 2,000 point man at BYU.
BYU has four regular-season games remaining and one guaranteed game in the West Coast Conference. A sixth guaranteed game should be expected as well from either the NCAA Tournament or NIT. In those six guaranteed games, Childs would need to average 16.2 points per game to hit 2,000 career points.

Childs is only the fourth player in West Coast Conference history to score more than 1,800 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds in a career. The others are USF’s Bill Cartwright (1975-1979), Nevada’s Edgar Jones (1975-1979), and Saint Mary’s Omar Samhan (2007-2010).
