Utah DC Morgan Scalley Listed Among Top College Football Assistant Coaches

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Utes defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley has been listed among the best college football assistant coaches in the country.
247 Sports released their list of the best coaches heading into the 2020 football season.
Scalley was named a finalist for the Broyles Award which is given to the best assistant coach in college football. Also, the Utes gave Scalley an extension, keeping him with the program for a long time.

Here is what 247 said about Scalley:
“A Utah lifer that played for the Utes before immediately beginning his coaching career there, Scalley has emerged as one of the best defensive coordinators in the game over the last four years. The Utes hadn’t had a top 25 defense in yards per play since 2009 but when Scalley took over as defensive coordinator in 2016, he took that unit to No. 28 in 2017, No. 10 in 2018 and No. 6 last season. Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig quietly has put together a resume worthy of this kind of list but Scalley’s fast-rising star has positioned him as a potential successor to Kyle Whittingham.”
Some have considered Scalley as the “head coach in waiting” when Kyle Whittingham retires.
