SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah football program will begin spring football practices on Monday, March 2 before their annual red/white spring game on April 11.

The 2020 season will feature a lot of new faces with 9 starters on defense and four starters on offense depart due to graduation or the NFL Draft.

Utah signed the best recruiting class in school history during the last signing period. Some of those recruits will not participate in spring football because they haven’t enrolled at Utah yet.

Here are five names to watch for during spring football:

Solomon Enis

The incoming junior is set up to have a breakout season in 2020. With the departure of Demari Simpkins, Enis is expected to step in and be a prime target for whoever the quarterback is this season for the Utes.

Enis is a tall and physical receiver that should be utilized as an offensive weapon on the opposite side of Bryan Thompson.

In 28 games played at Utah, Enis has 27 catches for 337 yards and one touchdown. As long as he thrives in the spring, Enis should be able to double that stat line in 2020.

Cameron Rising

The Texas transfer was pegged to succeed Tyler Huntley this year but with the addition of South Carolina graduate transfer Jake Bentley, the Utes now have an interesting quarterback battle on their hands.

The coaches have spoke very highly of Rising and has been a guy that has challenged a talented Utah defense as the scout team QB during the 2019 season. Expect the battle to leak into fall camp but we will get a good dose of what Rising is made of.

Jake Bentley

Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig jumped at the opportunity to get Bentley in a Utes uniform when the former South Carolina quarterback put his name in the transfer portal. His experience as a starting quarterback in the SEC will make the quarterback battle with Cameron Rising very interesting.

Bentley’s style fits Ludwig’s scheme which will give him a chance to win the starting job. This position battle will far and away be the most interesting and most talked about battle in spring and fall camp.

Clark Phillips III

The La Habra, California star is the highest rated recruit that has signed with Utah in school history. He decommitted from Ohio State in order to join the Utes. His speed and athleticism should set the freshman up to be a day one starter at a position that was depleted with departures.

Phillips will be fun to watch as he grows and progresses in Utah’s system.

Devin Brumfield

After the transfer of Devonta’e Henry-Cole, Devin Brumfield is expected to be the starting running back at Utah but not without a battle. In the early portion of last season, Jordan Wilmore was receiving most of the carries as a backup to Zack Moss before Brumfield took those reps late in the season.

This is the time for Brumfield to finally shine. Should be fun to see him capitalize on the opportunity.
