BYU Shoots 24 Percent In Second Half, Falls To Saint Mary’s On Last Second Shot

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 14 ranked BYU men’s basketball team shot 24 percent from the field in the second half and fell to the Saint Mary’s Gaels on a last-second shot by Jordan Ford.
The No. 2 seed Cougars played the No. 3 seed Gaels in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament at the Orleans Arena on Monday, March 9.
BYU made six field goals during the final 20 minutes of game time and suffered a 51-50 loss after Ford buried a mid-range jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining.

The Cougars held a 26-20 lead at halftime but struggled to pull away from the Gaels after coming back onto the court in the second half.
BYU finished the game shooting 36.2 percent overall and 38.9 percent from deep.
Yoeli Childs led the Cougars with 23 points on 8-20 shooting. He shot 1-8 from the field during the final 10 minutes of play.
Jake Toolson scored 11 points and was the only other BYU player to score in double figures.

Saint Mary’s shot 36.5 percent for the game including 22.2 percent on triples.
Ford led the Gaels with 18 points on 7-15 field goals. Dan Fotu added 10 points for SMC.
With the win, Saint Mary’s advanced to the WCC tourney title game and will play the No. 1 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 10.

BYU will wait to be announced as a member of the NCAA Tournament’s 68-team field.
The Cougars will learn about their about the NCAA tourney path during the NCAA selection show on Sunday, March 15 at 4 p.m. (MDT).
