Kalani Sitake Reveals His Most Memorable Sports Moment For First Time Ever

PROVO, Utah – BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake is trying to stay sane like all of us by working while he is stuck at home.
He joined KSL Unrivaled to discuss how he is handling the offseason being away from his team and how they are staying connected without being able to be near each other while prepping for the 2020 football season.
Sitake spoke about his biggest sports accomplishment with Unrivaled.

Sitake’s most memorable moment was when he was a freshman on the BYU football team and it is something he has never said publicly but Sitake is now doing so over 2o years later.
“I am a true freshman, we are playing against Hawaii and it is the first game of the year in 1994 in the season opener and in Hawaii where I am from,” Sitake said. “I have to run the play in and it is a very long call with shifts and motions. I have to memorize it – this is when we didn’t single – I ran towards the huddle with it in my head recited it over and over again. Got to the huddle and I said to [quarterback] John Walsh the call, perfectly, he decided he didn’t like the call and changed it to his own.

“The play went for eight yards, I came running off and the coaches are running at me as if I messed up the call. I just kept quiet and made nothing of it until now, so I am letting everyone know,” he added. “That is the most stressed I have ever been as a player and Walsh is the quarterback and they do their own thing. I bit the bullet to not embarrass the quarterback.”
Who would have that coach Sitake’s favorite memory in sports was the time he got to run the play in as a true freshman. He has plenty of other achievements including being a coach on Utah’s 2008 undefeated Sugar Bowl seasons or his first win as a head coach when BYU topped Arizona on a game-winning kick.
