BYU Forward Yoeli Childs Named Senior CLASS Second-Team All-American

PROVO – BYU senior forward Yoeli Childs now can call himself an All-American. On Tuesday, Childs was named to the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character, and competition.
The last BYU player to be named a Senior CLASS Award All-American was Tyler Haws in 2014-15 and prior to that was the great Jimmer Fredette in 2010-11.
What’s impressive about Childs accomplishments in his senior season is that he only played in 19 of BYU’s 32 games. Childs missed nine games due to an egregious suspension handed down by the NCAA and then was sidelined for another four during WCC play for a severe dislocation to his right index finger.
Not to mention the novel Coronavirus became a Global Pandemic forcing the NCAA to cancel the NCAA Tournament, something Childs had never participated in during his BYU career.
2020 Senior CLASS All-American Team
The first-team All-American Senior Class selections were given to Sam Merrill from Utah State, Udoka Azubuike from Kansas, Markus Howards out of Marquette, Seton Hall’s Myles Powell, and Michigan State leader Cassius Winston.
Joining Childs on Second-Team was James Foye from Dartmouth, Nathan Knight out of William & Mary, LSU’s Skylar Mays, and Lamar Stevens from Penn State.
Childs now turns his attention to the NBA Draft where he hired an agent in hopes of finding a landing spot in the pros.
