PROVO, Utah – BYU football is starting to get into a routine with its schedule amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This weekend’s game against UTSA will be the third consecutive week the Cougars have played a game.
The same can’t be said for the Cougars in Red from Houston. They had five different attempts in September to open their season and each one of those contests was postponed or canceled.
BYU Football Opponent Tracker: Week 6
Now Houston is set to open its 2020 season this week, and they take the spotlight in the week six edition of the 2020 BYU football opponent tracker.
Navy (1-2)
Last week: at Air Force, Loss, 7-40
This week: Temple, 4 p.m., CBS Sports Network
Maybe the lack of tackling in fall camp wasn’t the issue for the Midshipmen against BYU? Perhaps the Mids just aren’t good this year. Last week, Navy was steamrolled by an Air Force team that had weeks to prepare for Navy, and it showed as they crushed the Mids by 33 points. This week, Navy hosts Temple in the Owls season opener.

Troy (1-1)
Last week: South Alabama, Postponed
This week: Texas State, 1:30 p.m., ESPN3
Troy returns to action for the first time since playing BYU back on September 26th. The Trojans open up Sun Belt Conference play with another BYU foe in 2020, the Texas State Bobcats.

Louisiana Tech (2-1)
Last week: at BYU, Loss, 14-45
This week: UTEP, 5:30 p.m., ESPN2
The Bulldogs hung tough for a quarter before BYU ran away with the game last week in Provo. LA Tech has talented skill position players, but they need to figure out which direction they go at quarterback. Will it be Luke Anthony, or do they go with Aaron Allen?

UTSA (3-1)
Last week: at UAB, Loss, 13-21
This week: at No. 15 BYU, 1:30 p.m., ESPN2
Roadrunner quarterback Frank Harris is a game-time decision. If UTSA has any hope of giving BYU a scare, they will need Harris to play. The Roadrunner defensive line might be the defensive front that BYU will have faced to this point.
"Can really spin it. … It's effortless. There is not a throw he can't make. Good with his feet. Smooth. He's fun to watch, unless you are a Roadrunner fan."

Houston (0-0)
Last week: Bye
This week: Tulane, 5:30 p.m., ESPN (Thursday)
Welcome, Houston, to the 2020 college football season! The Coogs have gone through the wringer trying to get their season off the ground. Now they have a chance to open their season at home against Tulane, one week before they host BYU. Year two of Dana Holgorsen’s tenure will look to improve after that underwhelming 4-8 season they had a year ago.
Finally, it's 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗗𝗔𝗬!

Texas State (1-3)
Last week: Bye
This week: at Troy, 1:30 p.m., ESPN3
Coming off a bye, the Bobcats will look to pull off an upset against a Troy team that is looking to bounce back from a shellacking they experienced against BYU.

Western Kentucky (1-2)
Last week: at Middle Tennessee, Win, 20-17
This week: Marshall, 5:30 p.m., Stadium
To only win by three points against a bad Middle Tennessee team raises some questions about the Hilltoppers, who now go into a game against an undefeated Marshall team that last played on September 19th when they upset Appalachian State.
When BYU plays Western Kentucky on Halloween night, can we please get Cosmo and Big Red to do some stunts or post for photos at least? That’s all we ask.

Boise State (0-0)
Season opener: Utah State, October 24th
Still a few weeks away from seeing the Mountain West beginning its season. But what a welcome addition it is to have the annual matchup against Boise State back on BYU’s schedule. The Broncos boast a trio of talented skill players in QB Hank Bachmeier, RB George Holani, and WR Khalil Shakir. Boise’s biggest question marks entering the 2020 season reside in the trenches on both offense and defense, where they replace nearly everyone from last year’s 12-win team.

North Alabama (0-1)
Last week: at Liberty, Loss, 7-28
This week: Bye
The Lions were shut out against Liberty for the first 54 minutes of the game before scoring a touchdown on a drive that was set up by a takeaway.

San Diego State (0-0)
Season opener: UNLV, October 24th
With the old Jack Murphy/Qualcomm/SDCCU Stadium soon to be demolished, the Aztecs will play their home games in Carson, California, 114 miles away from campus. The Aztecs will trade California’s sunshine for a mid-December trip to Provo against the Cougars later this season.
Our 2020 schedule is now complete. We'll play at Brigham Young on Dec. 12.

Last week: Abilene Christian, Win, 55-23
